1. Purpose and Objectives
The purpose of this policy is to outline the Australian Archaeological Association’s (AAA) stance on equal opportunity. This policy outlines the standards of behaviour the Association requires of its members at all times. The level of conduct expected by the Association is equal to that which is outlined in the Age Discrimination Act 2004 (CTH), Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (CTH), Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Act 1999 (CTH), Fair Work Act 2009 (CTH), Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (CTH), and the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 (CTH).

3. Policy Scope/Coverage
The scope of this policy relates to all members of the Australian Archaeological Association, this includes all financial members of the Association and all members of the National Executive. This policy is also applicable to the content of the Association’s journal, Australian Archaeology (AA), the content of any other publications issued by the Association, the content of the Associations website, the content of any other social media platforms (incl. Facebook, Twitter etc.).
4. Policy Statement
The AAA recognizes the valuable contribution its diverse membership makes to the association. The Association is therefore committed to providing a forum in which all members are provided an equal opportunity to participate without fear of discrimination or harassment. No member should be excluded, discriminated against or harassed owing to any of the following attributes – sex, relationship status, pregnancy, parental status, breastfeeding, age, race, impairment, religious belief or religious activity, political belief or political activity, trade union activity, lawful sexual activity, gender identity, sexuality, family responsibilities, and/or association with, or relation to, a person identified on the basis of any of the above attributes.
5. Managing Discrimination and Harassment
If any person, whether a AAA member or not, feels that a member of the association has violated this Equal Opportunity Policy the AAA National Executive request they contact the President or Secretary of the Association and lodge a formal complaint. All complaints will be dealt with in a confidential manner and will be investigated by the AAA Ethics Committee.
