The Environmental Protection Agency is the lead State Government department for historical cultural heritage issues in Queensland. The Cultural Heritage Branch is responsible for the administration of the Queensland Heritage Act, 1992, and has responsibility for entering places of cultural heritage significance on the Queensland Heritage Register, the assessment of development applications for registered places, and the conduct of a statewide assessment for built and archaeological heritage places.
